Full-time education or study – What are my options in Doncaster?
If you’re finishing Year 11 and want to stay in full-time education, there are lots of great options here in Doncaster.
Whether you’re aiming for A Levels, want to learn a trade, or are still figuring things out, you can find a route that suits your interests and goals. Your choice and options might depend on:
- How you like to learn and what suits your strengths
- Your future/career goals
- Where you are already in your education including the grades you achieved at GCSE/Level 2 study
Here’s a breakdown of the different options in Doncaster:
- Full-time study at a Sixth Form/Sixth Form College
- Full-time study at a Further Education College
- Full-time study at a Specialist/Supported Study provision
- Full-time study with a Private Training Provider/College
Find out more about each option and the places you can study below!
Sixth Form or Sixth Form Colleges
If you enjoyed school and want to stay in a classroom-based setting, Sixth Form could be a good fit for you!
What you can study:
- A-Levels – usually 3 subjects studied over 2 years. A great option if you’re thinking about University or Higher Level study in the future, or want to keep your career options open by studying a few different topics/course areas
- Level 3 Vocational Courses – like BTECs, T-Levels or Cambridge Technicals which are more coursework-based. These usually focus more on practical skills in specific areas such as health and social care, business and media, for example. With some providers you can mix different qualifications and subjects, but for some qualifications, such as T-Levels, you just study one subject

Further Education (FE) Colleges
Colleges offer a wide range of full-time courses and are often larger, with more independence than school. If this is the type of setting you think would work for you, let’s have a look at the different options.
What you can study:
- Level 2/Level 3 Vocational Courses – such as BTECs, T-Levels or NVQs in areas such as engineering, construction, childcare, beauty etc
- T-Levels – A newer style of qualification that combines classroom learning with industry placements (like an Apprenticeship but with more time in college)
- Foundation Learning or Entry-Level Course – Ideal if you need extra support or didn’t get the grades you had hoped for. These can be a great stepping stone to accessing other education options in the future
