Dementia Action Week 2025

This Dementia Action Week, we are highlighting the importance of early diagnosis to ensure our residents are receiving the correct care, treatment and support they need.

If you are concerned about yourself or a loved one showing signs of Dementia, you can find more information around signs/symptoms, where to start your journey around receiving a diagnosis and further support for groups and activities and local services on the Your Life Doncaster website. 

Events happening this week

There are lots of different events taking place across Doncaster this week to support those with Dementia and their families.

  • Sporting Friendship Group – every Tuesday, 10:30am – 12pm, Knights Rugby Club, Armthorpe
    Free to attend, the group is aimed at older adults who may have an interest in sports or just want to get out and socialise to chat and have a cuppa. Includes some sports related quizzes, games and bingo. Plus tea, coffee & biscuits.

  • Community Sensory Garden Re-launch – Thursday 22 May, 12:30pm, Walled Garden, St Catherines House (Tickhill Road)
    Join us to re-launch our Sensory Garden! A Garden for relaxation, contemplation and a space to experience and enjoy its sensory properties. Creating varied opportunities for all senses to stimulate memories, conversations, emotions for all.

  • Age UK: Dementia Information Day – Tuesday 20 May, 10am-2pm, The Silver Link Centre, Bennetthorpe
    'Dementia Friends' awareness session with Alzheimer's Society, Music Bingo, Dance On to music, Raffle, 'Time For A Cuppa' coffee morning and refreshments all day. Contact Age UK Helpline 01302 812345 to book a place.

  • Memory Club – Tuesday 20 May, 10:30am – 12:30pm, Wheatley Golf Club
    Providing a free opportunity for people affected by dementia to meet, chat and share support and information. Hot drinks, conversation, quiz and activities. Free buffet lunch.
  • Dementia Information Day – Friday 23 May, 10am – 3pm, Eco-Power Stadium
    Sponsored by City of Doncaster Council, Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Crossroads and Home Instead, the day will include information from people & organisations who can provide information, help & services relating to Dementia. Join us for an engaging day with informative talks on dementia, information stalls, lunch, a ladies choir, raffle, therapy room and more! Don’t miss this opportunity to learn and connect. No booking required, FREE entry
