Cracking Down on Vehicle Crime: Operation Duxford Makes a Big Impact in South Doncaster
On 3rd September, communities across South Doncaster saw a strong show of partnership and action as part of Operation Duxford, a targeted day of engagement and enforcement to tackle vehicle crime and off-road bike issues.
Led by South Yorkshire Police and supported by local Neighbourhood Team, the day focused from a partnership perspective on community-led support (CLS), visibility in crime hotspots, and vehicle crime prevention advice.
Key highlights from the day:
Mexborough:
- 61 residents engaged across 3 CLS sessions
- 54 “Where’s That Bike?” QR codes distributed
- 2 veteran referrals made
- Community Information Survey (CIS) gathered intelligence on drug activity and off-road bikes
- 2 fly-tipping referrals submitted
Rossington & Bawtry:
- 12 residents engaged at 2 CLS sessions
- Advice given on e-bikes, e-scooters, and reporting ORB activity
- Residents supported with housing and environmental concerns
Balby & Woodfield Plantation:
- Businesses on Plantation Road engaged around nuisance bikes
- 10 residents spoken to on the estate, all given SYP reporting details
- CIS to gather valuable intelligence bike activity
- Despite the rain, the team engaged with parents outside Carr Lodge Academy “Where’s That Bike?”
Edlington:
- 10 residents engaged at Asda with crime prevention materials shared
- Joint CLS with PCSOs at Home Bargains Advice given on e-bikes, e-scooters, and reporting ORB activity
- CIS at Queens Crescent led to a new line of enquiry re: suspicious male
Despite challenging weather, the operation successfully connected with over 100 residents, and strengthened community confidence in tackling local crime.
